Festivities

Águilas

One of the outstanding events on the Águilas Festival calendar is the Carnival Fiesta, declared of International Tourist Interest, which takes place before lent (between February and March). The cuerva is the “official drink” of Carnival time. It is kind of a “magic potion”, made using a blend of fruits, wine, certain liquors and soft drinks. Parades and Carnival of the Night: During the past years Águilas Carnival has developed into an extravaganza that offers two differing experiences of the same event: The "Carnival by Day", where luxury and beauty reigns in the spectacular nature and colouring of the carnival groups and floats and the "Carnival by Night" with its spontaneity, wittiness, and popular roguery. Competition of Paper Suits: The paper suit competition is growing yearly into one of the fiesta´s highlights. Because of the fragility of the materials used, these suits are presented In a closed area where you can properly appreciate the materials and detail of their construction.

Águilas

The Águilas Carnival is a popular event that has been held for the last two centuries and has strong social and cultural connotations. It is a 15-day celebration, but one that requires a lot of enthusiasm and effort throughout the year to prepare, with the entire population of Águilas participating either directly or indirectly. Declared of International Tourist Interest since 2015, Carnival is a traditional festival that has been passed down from generation to generation and forms part of the cultural heritage of Águilas. The Carnival Museum offers an exhibition of different elements of this ancient festival, so that everyone who visits it can learn about Águilas Carnival at any time of the year.
